The Context: My account has 17 years of history, which was actually working against me. I recently pivoted my focus to financials, but the algorithm had me pegged elsewhere.

If you are struggling to pivot an older account, or just trying to grow from scratch, here are the 3 critical lessons I learned about the algorithm:

1. Alignment is Everything

New accounts often get a "fresh start" boost because they are laser-focused on specific niches or viral trends. The algorithm knows exactly where to place them.

Older accounts have it harder. The algorithm weighs your entire history—every post, like, and reply. If that history doesn't match your new content, your reach is throttled.

The Fix: If you have an older account, you have to retrain the model. Stay in your lane. Only interact with posts in the space you want to be in. The algorithm will eventually learn.

2. Engagement: The "Two Towers" Effect

Unlike TikTok, where content stands alone, X relies heavily on user history and network effects.

It’s not just if people engage, but who engages. The "two towers" embedding factors in your history, the viewer's history, and the latent meaning of the post. This is why a "Strategic Commenting" strategy works so well. When you reply to high-relevance posts, you insert yourself into the correct data bucket.

3. Reach vs. Quality

I noticed a pattern: some of my best replies (solid gold value) got zero traction, while mundane ones got dozens of likes. The difference was Reach. By strategically focusing effort on high-value accounts rather than just shouting into the void, growth accelerates significantly.

The Solution:
